The Center for Survivors at Michigan State University provides FREE and confidential individual counseling and support groups to MSU students who are survivors of adult sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse. The center offers FREE and confidential legal, academic, institutional, and personal advocacy and support for survivors of sexual violence in the Greater Lansing area. Additional crisis intervention and advocacy services include: a 24-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline and 24-hour medical advocacy at Sparrow Hospital for survivors who present for Sexual Assault exams.
The Center for Survivors can assist with confidential referrals to community resources for individuals living in other communities.

MSU Safe Place is a program that addresses relationship violence and stalking. It is located on the campus of MSU and serves students, faculty, staff, their spouses/partners and non-affiliated members in the Greater Lansing area.
Safe Place provides advocacy, emergency shelter, counseling, support groups, safety planning, information, and referrals to survivors of violence and their minor children. All support services are free and confidential. Additionally, Safe Place works to increase awareness about relationship violence and stalking through community education, outreach efforts, expert witness training, professional trainings, and consultation.

The Pevention, Outreach and Education (POE) Department promotes safety and improves quality of life by educating students on sexual assault and relationship violence, eliminating violence on campus, empowering students to become advocates for a non-violent community, and positively effecting social change.
Some of POE's programs are required to all students each year.

MSU Counseling and Psychiatric Services is the new place on campus for students seeking help for a wide range of concerns, including: depression, anxiety, stress management, homesickness, adjustment or acculturation, relationships, gender and sexual orientation (
CAPS will continue to put students first, welcoming every student and taking into account all aspects of a student’s identity, such as race, ethnicity, culture, religion, language, gender, and sexual orientation.
The Office of Institutional Equity reviews concerns related to discrimination and harassment based on age, color, gender, gender identity, disability status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, and weight under the University's Anti-Discrimination Policy and Policy on Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct. OIE staff also connect MSU community members to resources and investigate complaints.

1-855-VOICES4 is a 24 hour-a-day hotline for confidential support and resources for sexual assault survivors. The hotline was launched by former Gov. Rick Snyder and First Lady Sue Snyder and is staffed by professional crisis counselors with specialized training in crisis intervention, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, victim’s rights, health options, and Michigan law. Hotline staff can help connect victims with community-based sexual assault programs that offer additional counseling, advocacy and support. Hotline staff also can connect victims with other Michigan services such as Crime Victims Compensation and the Michigan Victim Information and Notification Everyday (MI-VINE), an electronic victim notification service.
The Michigan Crime Victim Services Commission is a state agency in charge of funding and services for victims of a physical crime. It has four programs that serve and support crime victims including: Compensation, Sexual Assault Forensic Exam, Victim Rights, and Crime Victim Assistance. For more information, see their brochure.
Please note these programs may only be available to survivors who report to the police, and/or to those who seek services within a limited time after an assault or crime occurs.
