MSU recently finalized a $500 million settlement with the survivors of Larry Nassar. The university is complying with the terms of the agreement, including paying $425 million into a settlement fund for immediate distribution to the 333 plaintiffs involved in the successful mediation.
Today’s motion concerns only the $75 million that was set aside in a litigation fund to address any future claims that may be filed. For those claims, the university must still follow a legal process to address the claims. Further, the legislature recently enacted an extension to the statute of limitations, which closes on Sept. 10. Today’s “motion to stay” allows MSU time to gather the information necessary to determine the appropriate course of action on any possible claims filed before Sept. 10 that were not included in the mediation.
