Michelle and I loved President Bush, and we mourn his passing. He was a man of honor and integrity whose life was long, well-lived and an example to all.

We knew him as a dear friend who always delighted in talking with Michelle about all things Texas. He always wanted to know how "the girls" were doing and what they were doing. The kindness of President Bush was legendary. After our daughters were born in 1994, one day in the mail three photos of the president arrived. The president had selected three different casual photos and hand-wrote notes to each daughter talking about his friendship with their mom and dad.

The life of President George H. W. Bush was truly extraordinary. Our country and all who knew him have been touched by his affection for Barbara and his family, his decency and devotion to serving others and a lifetime dedicated to our nation and its people.

George Bush taught us about "a thousand points of light." His life showed us he truly was the brightest light of all.

May he rest in peace. God bless President George H. W. Bush.
