A chemical leak reported April 28 at Munn Ice Arena has been contained, and there is no threat to the campus community.
About 1:10 p.m., the monitoring system at Munn Ice Arena detected an ammonia leak in the arena, immediately setting off a warning alarm. The system automatically initiated several safety measures, including turning on exhaust fans and notifying authorities.
Six employees were in the building and evacuated; no one was injured. The leak was traced to a valve on an indicator gauge, and repairs are under way. Ammonia is used in the arena to make and cool the ice.
The arena remains closed, and Chestnut Road has reopened.
