We are thrilled to see the governor’s proposal to increase funding for universities by 6.1 percent. We are still reviewing the details of the proposal, and we agree it is imperative for the state to reinvest in higher education.

This budget proposal goes a long way to heeding the Business Leaders for Michigan’s call to increase higher education funding and restore Michigan’s national and global standing. This is a major step in the right direction, continuing the positive trend of increasing funding after years of reducing state aid.

We look forward to working with the governor, the legislature and key leaders from across the state as we proceed on the higher education budget process.
